Biography
Jaewon Shin | Composer, Performer, and Improviser
Jaewon Shin was born in Seoul, Republic of Korea in 2003. She likes to express her own imagination and interests in mind through diverse way, but mostly using sound, and her music believes that "the most personal is the most special and universal."
She is studying composition in Seoul National University with Sebastian Claren and mentored by Steven Takasugi. She also attended to private lessons with Chaya Czernowin, Sarah Nemtsov, Clara Ianotta, Misato Mochizuki, and Lisa Streich.
Jaewon's piece is played in Austria, Germany, United State, Japan, and Korea - in various music festivals, academies and concerts. She was an active participant and her piece was played at Darmstädter Ferienkurse in 2023 and 2025, and at Impuls Festival in 2025. Her piece was also performed at 'Daegu International Contemporary Music Festival'(DCMF), CAMPGround25, and Project Studio2021 for numerous times. Her music was performed by various ensembles and players such as Curious Chamber Players, Cabinet of Curiosities, Ensemble Eins, Percaso String Quartet, and Basschestra based in Japan. Recently she received first prize at 'The journal of music 29th concours' and had reading session with Ensemble Eins.
Her music is not only for acoustic instruments, but also acoustic objects, and electronics. Her interests are expanding to the sound world of electro-acoustic concert musics, multimedia arts and a constructed improvisations. She is also interested in directing and performing and organizing new style of stage, stimulates more than two senses.(synesthetic art)
